East Trail 3 traverses a large open prairie near the park's southeastern boundary, connecting Trails 2 and 5. Near this segment's western terminus it crosses a wet prairie habitat, climbs a small ridge, and descends via switchbacks to cross Buckbrush Creek, a significant ephemeral stream in the park. After crossing the creek, East Trail 3 meets Trails 5, Middle Trail 3, and Trail 56.
