The woodland portion of the garden path is a beloved journey in spring when wildflowers carpet the forest floor, first in yellow from winter aconite, marsh marigolds (which came from Bob Patterson’s property) and celandine poppies, then the stars of the spring show - tens of thousands of Virginia Bluebells that cover the hillsides in late April. This path was Marie Aull’s sanctuary. For many years, this trail was not open to the public. Marie wished to protect this delicate ecosystem, promoting the special spring wildflowers that carpet these woods. She and John had nurtured the woodland back to life after years of over-grazing by cattle.
