With 30+ sites across the island, the African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard celebrates the history of African American people here, commemorating people, places, and events. This selection features 14 sites that are easily accessible to the public. Some are close enough to each other that you may walk between them; most require driving from place to place. They are marked by plaques; please do not enter private property. 

The African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard is a nonprofit community history organization dedicated to restoring, researching, and celebrating the history of African American people on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The group provides educational services to the community and has developed an ongoing physical trail currently composed of 31 sites. Fully narrated tours are available daily throughout the summer season with three options: Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and an all-island tour.
