Found in dry sandy areas, such as scrub or sandhill habitats, false rosemary is a robust evergreen shrub. It flowers throughout late spring and summer, producing small fragrant purple flowers that are a popular stop for pollinators. Contrary to its name, false rosemary is a part of the mint family and when crushed, the leaves emit a mint smell. While not edible, the plant has a pleasant scent, and it is a popular landscape plant for dry habitats. During times of extreme drought, the plant may need minimal irrigation. If you want to add the plant to your home lawn, it is commonly carried at native plant nurseries and is sure to encourage pollinator visits.
