In May 1994, Chalmer Bish wanted to do "something nice and healthy" for the community. His donation of over five acres of land along Greenville Creek for a park and walking trail was a testament to his commitment to the community and the health benefits of walking. Today, Alice Bish Park, named in honor of Chalmer's wife, provides not only a multi-use trail along the banks of the scenic Greenville Creek but also serves as the Trailhead for the Tecumseh Bike Trail, connecting Alice Bish Park, the Greenville City Park, and Prairie Ridge Meadow. Canoe and kayak enthusiasts can launch their craft at the Alice Bish Canoe Launch for a float downstream. Easily accessible from Ohio Street in Greenville, Alice Bish Park provides the ideal setting for a casual stroll in any season, with nature and a scenic stream as your companions.
The onsite Bish Discovery Center’s focus is to educate visitors about sustainable living, renewable energy, and how to have a positive impact on the environment. The center is also the District’s hub for outdoor recreation, such as cycling and paddling, as well as gardening and sustainable living workshops and programs. The property includes a pollinator meadow and community garden and is located adjacent to the Tecumseh Bike Trail.
